KAP holds summer General Council

Keystone Agricultural Producers met July 19 in Brandon for its summer edition of General Council. Delegates from across the province exchanged ideas and updates on new and emerging agricultural issues, and passed the following resolutions:

Cosmetic pesticide use consultation
KAP will participate in the Province of Manitoba’s consultation on the use of cosmetic lawn pesticides and comment on how inadequate control of lawn weeds can have a negative economic impact on agricultural operations and municipal infrastructure.

Protection of aquifers
KAP will lobby the Government of Manitoba to hold oil and gas companies liable and responsible for environmental protection when crossing shallow aquifers with pipelines.

Survey timelines
KAP will lobby Statistics Canada and other government departments to conduct relevant, non-urgent surveys in the winter when farmers have the appropriate amount of time available to complete them.
