KAP annual meeting starts Wednesday
Excellent lineup of speakers, including author of The Gluten Lie

Keystone Agricultural Producers’ 32nd annual meeting starts Wednesday, 9:30 a.m., at the Delta Winnipeg and runs until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

One of the featured speakers this year is Dr. Alan Levinovitz, author of The Gluten Lie and assistant professor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He will discuss scientific literacy, and how people interpret information they get about food.

The introduction to The Gluten Lie reads: “Gluten is not the enemy. And neither are salt, sugar, fat, or any foods we eliminate in the quest for optimum health. In fact, most of what we believe about nutrition is based on myth and superstition, not proven science.”

Levinovitz’s insight into consumers’ perceptions and beliefs about food can be extended to help farmers understand why there are pervasive myths and misconceptions about modern farming practices. His presentation takes place at 9:15 on Thursday.

Wednesday’s speakers include Leona Dargis on succession planning, and Colleen Dyck, creator of the GORP clean-energy bar. In between the guest speakers there will be delegate resolutions, networking and opportunities for interviews. Media and observers are welcome.
